About Us

Race is a controversial topic, one that we learn how to deal with as we grow older and explore new situations. As young adult coming to terms with their identities, the University of Texas at Austin creates an environment that highlights important issues for all ethnicities. Our group was fascinated by the different blends of traditions, habits, and ethnicity that make UT so unique. Therefore we decided to explore culture as a whole because it is really culture that unites, and makes this learning environment so powerful and colorful. 

My name is Carola Medina and I'm a first year journalism major at the University of Texas at Austin. I am originally from Houston, Texas, but I  have quickly adjusted to life as an Austonite!  My passions include writing and sports, specifically European football.  My goal is to become a sports journalist and  base my career in Spain.  I hope to one day inspire the world through my writing the     way countless authors have done for me.

My name is Itzel Garcia and I am a first year journalism major. I was born in Weslaco, Texas but I was raised in Mexico. I am fascinated by how different cultures combine to complement each other because I had never interacted with any other ethnicity other than Hispanic, therefore when I came to UT I experienced a huge cultural shock and had problems making friends. Socializing became very hard. My dream is to become not only a journalist but also a writer and work to better Mexico's political and social issues, the place I call my home.


 Hey there, I am Michael Baez currently a Sophomore at the Journalism School at the University of Texas Austin. Im currently interested in the Mexican American experience specifically the differences between  generations. I also am a part of Longhorn Hip Hop at TSTV. I spent a short period of time at the Daily Texan working on the Tech Team where I learned basic HTML and CSS. I aspire to create literature that teaches other Mexican Americans about social and economic issues.

Hi, I’m Thomas Alameda. I’m a 22 year-old Journalism major at the University of Texas at Austin. I was a member of the 2010 Point Pleasant Borough High School graduating class in Point Pleasant, NJ. I took some time off of school but I’m back at it now. I have an affinity for sports and love the small beach town I came from. However, I’m very interested in exploring the world and learning about new and unique cultures. I really enjoy just how much I can learn just by being surrounded by so many different people at the University of Texas.
